VINELink Coverage for Gates Custody
NC SAVAN, the state's automated victim assistance and notification network, links participating county jails to search and alert tools. It also draws in Adult Corrections data. The public face of the system is VINELink. Anyone can look up custody data and register for status-change notices. Gates County has no jail of its own. People arrested there are housed in other counties. No public source shows that every one of those outside arrangements surfaces under a single Gates result. So search by name and identify the receiving facility. Statewide reach does not mean every arrest, brief hold, or transfer appears. The NC SAVAN page names the official state program behind the service.

Gates County jails feed custody details into the system, yet a full picture of who is in custody still hinges on each facility sharing its booking data.
Run a Gates VINELink Check
Use exact identifying facts. A shared name proves nothing. The North Carolina person-search route opens the state context directly, and the main VINELink page lets you pick a state. Labels on the screen can change, so follow what is shown rather than assuming a county filter exists.
- Open VINELink and choose North Carolina.
- Select the person or offender search offered by the interface.
- Enter the exact name or known identification number. Use any displayed narrowing fields.
- Compare every result’s facility, status, and identifier with facts from the arresting agency.
- Open the matching record and note the source and time checked.
- If there is no result, contact the Gates Sheriff and ask which outside detention facility received the person.
The captured North Carolina search screen shows the interface used for a person lookup.

This screen is only a search tool. A name appearing there does not prove every Gates booking is connected.
What a VINELink Result Means
VINELink centers on custody and notifications. It is no substitute for the booking record itself. Fields shift with the contributing agency, and there is no Gates-specific result format. Treat any result as current system information, not a full account of the arrest or case.
| Result item | Meaning and limit |
|---|---|
| Name | A search key that must be matched with other identifiers. |
| Offender or custody ID | A system identifier, not necessarily a Gates court case number. |
| Custody status | The connected system’s current label; it may lag facility processing. |
| Facility | The reported custodian, which may be outside Gates County. |
| Transfer | A move can change the facility and may require new notification registration. |
| Release event | A custody change, not a dismissal or final court disposition. |
| Notification option | A way to register contact channels for supported events. |
| Photo | VINELink is not a promised Gates County mugshot source. |
A release from custody does not mean charges were dropped. Continued custody proves nothing either. For the case record and final disposition, use the Gates County Judicial Branch page.
Register for NC SAVAN Alerts
Register on the website or call the NC SAVAN hotline at (877) 627-2826, also written as 1-877-NC-SAVAN. The state supports phone, email, text, and TTY channels. Registration stays confidential. The person in custody is never told. Pick channels you can check safely, and keep your four-digit PIN handy.
- Open the matching custody record or call the NC SAVAN hotline.
- Select the supported release, transfer, escape, capture, or other custody-change notice.
- Add a phone number, email address, text channel, or TTY option offered by the system.
- Create the required four-digit PIN and record it in a secure place.
- Confirm the registration and make sure the contact channel works.
- Recheck registration after a transfer, particularly when custody moves between county jails.
Under the state FAQ, routine phone alerts run from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Critical calls about release, escape, or capture can come at any hour. Missed ordinary calls repeat every two hours within that window for up to 24 hours. Critical calls retry more often, also for 24 hours. Email arrives anytime. These are notification rules only. Facility data can still enter the system late. The VINELink landing page is the official entry point for search and registration.

Tie registration to the verified person record, and revisit it after any move to another county facility.
Gates Transfers Can Break Alerts
The NC SAVAN FAQ warns that a transfer between county jails may call for registering again. That rule carries extra weight in Gates. The county depends on outside detention. A registrant watching only the original facility can miss the new record, or read a disappearance as a release when it is not. After a transfer notice, note the new facility and identifier. Search the new custodian. Confirm the record. Re-register when prompted. If VINELink will not name the new location, call the prior facility or the Gates Sheriff's Office for the right official routing. Skip any unofficial "Gates County Jail" page, since the county has no jail to list. Does a missing result mean release? No. Absence can stem from a transfer, a processing lag, excluded custody, wrong search details, or an unlinked facility. Verify before you act on it.
VINELink Limits After Gates Arrests
NC SAVAN does not follow every stage after an arrest. The state FAQ leaves out people held only at a police precinct or local police facility. It also omits people who post bond without booking, juveniles, and people in mental-health facilities. A fresh Gates arrest may also sit in transport or intake first. The receiving facility sends data after that. VINELink does not replace a booking record or a photo request. It offers no full police blotter. It gives no exact arrest time. It has no say in the criminal case. Federal Bureau of Prisons custody is out of scope too. For state prison, probation, and parole records, the NCDAC offender search is the right tool. It expressly excludes county-jail information. Each system maps a different custody state.
Compare any result with Gates County Arrests Last 24 Hours when the booking may have happened today. Gates County runs no same-day feed. Start with the Sheriff's Office and the receiving jail. The Gates County recent-arrests hub also covers records requests, court follow-up, and official custody distinctions.
Official Gates Custody Contacts
Start local when the receiving jail is unknown: the Gates County Sheriff's Office, at 202 Court Street, PO Box 154, Gatesville, NC 27938, lists (252) 357-0210. Ask two things. Which facility holds the person, and which agency owns the booking record. The sheriff handles law enforcement, not jail operations.
NC SAVAN service questions belong with the state, which lists (866) 719-0108 for victim support alongside its automated hotline. Court dates come from the Gates Clerk of Superior Court at (252) 357-1365. A court record can show a plea, dismissal, continuance, or conviction. It may not reflect current custody.
Log every source with the date. Custody changes fast. Third-party copies can lag behind. Get official confirmation before you travel, make a safety decision, or reconnect with someone after a Gates County arrest.
